The human body, for all its sophistication, is just not equipped to deal with high levels of continuous stress. At its most basic level stress is a reaction to feelings such as guilt which results from being confronted by incompatible choices. The classic case is stress caused by having to be in two places at the same time, for instance in an important meeting with a client or at your kid's soccer game. If you experience too much stress, your body will suffer. Illness or even breakdowns can follow as your body tries to bring you to a halt amid the rush of modern life.
Another source of stress is the tension caused between planning and actually performing a task. If, while you are working, your mind is on planning future acts, your mind will be cluttered. This will complicate the task at hand while creating stress because you cannot focus clearly on the planning. You can avoid this trap by a proper division of your time. Grant yourself enough time to plan and set time aside to work without future plans dividing your attention.
But even if your life is well-managed the hustle and bustle of the modern workplace will incrementally - and at times suddenly - put you under pressure. You cannot always avoid this. You need to find a space, time and mechanism to discharge this stress. In effect you need a sanity bubble. With practice and the right techniques this can happen in a few minutes. Think of this as an impenetrable bubble in which you are untouched by the thoughts, influences and focus of the workplace.
A healthy lifestyle is all about exercise, a proper diet and above all, dealing with stress. The modern worker all too often just lands on a treadmill and goes flailing away without considering how the pieces of his life fit together. Medical aid suppliers would like you to sit down and sort through the components of your life. It is to their benefit that you remain healthy and whole. Many of them approach the problem holistically, not merely staying in the wings to ante up money when you hit the wall, but to help you remain healthy. They offer information, promote a healthy lifestyle and reward it with benefits. Medical aid schemes are well-positioned to become a valuable partner in your campaign to keep sane and whole. Your health is very important to them and can be measured in rands and cents. That is why they are giving incentives for a healthy lifestyle and reward people who exercise and take part in healthy sports.
A healthy mind equals a healthy body. Counceling is a great way to learn how to handle the stress in your life. However, if that is not for you, talking to family and friends about it will help. Living a healthy lifestyle is the best supplement for stress relieg, as the endorphins released as you exercise help to lift the mood.
